As Eagle soars high above, it’s Keen Sight allows it to see the Overall Pattern and the Bigger Picture. So it teaches you to view the Past and the Present objectively whilst looking to the Future and to see past old restricting beliefs. It shows you how to ride the wind, see opportunity, a new beginning, gain a renewed sense of purpose or reconnect with your Spirit – a Spiritual Awakening awaits. It reminds you that you can stay grounded whilst soaring high in the Spiritual Realm. You can live in the Spirit World, yet be connected and balanced in the Earthly Realm, having a good connection to Spirit Guides, Teachers and Higher Truths.
Eagle is a Master of Air, representing the Mental Plane and Higher Mind. It has great Wisdom as it brings Illumination to the Shadows of former realities and presents you with understanding after you’ve passed your initiation tests through doing the required Inner Work and reclaimed your Personal Power. Eagle is regarded as the Sacred Messenger to the Creator and so Eagle Feathers are used by Shamans to comb the aura, helping to connect the person to their Spirit and bringing Balance. It brings Healing from bringing everything into the Light. It helps you to have Courage to face your fears of the unknown.
Eagle has a powerful beak to crush bones. It reminds you when to speak, how much and how strongly, so as not to hurt, but to encourage and show kindness.
Eagle knows Patience, it observes and shows no attachment, knowing everything is a gift from the Universe, so removing judgement. Within the energy of patience everything is possible. It shows dignity with grace, independence and knowledge of magic.
the eagle as perceived by different cultures
As we delve into the significance of the eagle as a spirit animal guide, we uncover a rich tapestry of cultural and historical influences. In ancient Greece, the eagle was closely tied to Zeus, who could assume its form to wield thunderbolts, signifying the eagle’s association with power and majesty. Native American traditions view the eagle as the Thunderbird, representing thunder and lightning. It serves as a sacred messenger, carrying prayers to the divine and bringing back blessings and insights to the people. This portrays the eagle as a bridge between the earthly and spiritual realms. Meanwhile, in Gaelic lore the eagle is named Suil-na-Greine, the Eye of the Sun, highlighting its connection to the sun’s radiant energy and its role as a guide on our spiritual journey.
In essence, the eagle encompasses both awe-inspiring power and a connection to the divine. It encourages us to soar to greater heights, wielding our own inner power while remaining connected to the spiritual light that guides us on our journey.
personal significance
For me the Eagle has special significance in my life. I am a Scorpio, but not a typical one. Of the three types of Scorpio, for most of my life before I woke up to my spiritual path, I flew under the radar and hid as I floated in the upper levels of being a Grey Lizard. I did sink into the trauma and pain a bit as I ran away from the world after trying to blend in, but I could never conform to what other people saw as being “normal” so I kept myself occupied with a variety of interests, one of which was reading voraciously, and especially about animals. I would spend hours in the library scanning the resource section for everything I could find remotely related to animals.
When I did finally wake up to the spiritual path and started my training in the martial arts and, more importantly, in the healing arts, I became aware and started honing my compassionate and empathic side. Then I noticed I could observe and not get involved in other people’s lives as I needed to be objective so that I could help them. And that’s when I learned about the three levels of the Scorpio and that I was becoming the Eagle. I totally skipped the Scorpion bit. My friends are usually shocked when they learn I’m a Scorpio. Don’t get me wrong, it takes a long time for me to get mad at you, but when I do, beware of either the explosion, or the total cutting away out of my life part. I don’t hold grudges and I won’t go out of my way to hurt you, but once you’re out of my life, you don’t exist in my world. I still respect and love you as someone with your own free will as I always deal with all souls I encounter along my way from a spiritual perspective, so I then acknowledge that you chose your path, and I chose not to include you in mine any longer as it doesn’t serve me anymore.
So I’ve been able to observe from a higher perspective as an Eagle for most of my awoken life since the age of about 32, when I stepped onto this Path of Remembering. It also helps that I’m a Dragon Rider lol. I love observing from above, aerial photography and drone footage are SO my thing, I love it!
Eagle was also one of the nine totem animals of a friend I did my first Totem Animal Reading for, so it was literally the first Spirit Animal I did intensive research on from the Shamanic perspective. I’m using this deep dive into the animals as a way for me to remember, as I have been a Shaman in several lifetimes and I can feel the Calling. And the Animals have been pushing me to help them to connect with people at the deeper levels again. We’ve forgotten so much of our link with Mother Nature…we are part of, not separate.
So we will dive into deeper aspects of the wisdom of the Eagle and it’s messages for us in each of the directions of the Medicine Wheel in upcoming posts. For now we will soar in the higher currents of peace and enjoy the perspective from Above.
